Slot provides fitness update as Liverpool prepare for Newcastle clash

Arne Slot has delivered a detailed fitness briefing ahead of Liverpool’s return to Premier League action, as the Reds gear up to host Newcastle United under the Anfield lights on Saturday night.

With a late kick-off looming, Liverpool welcome the Magpies in what promises to be a high-tempo domestic showdown. As the build-up gathered pace, Slot addressed the media in his pre-match press conference, offering clarity on several key players and their availability.

To begin with, there was mixed news on Jeremie Frimpong, who is set for a spell on the sidelines but avoided a worst-case scenario.

“He will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow, so he is out for a few weeks,” Slot confirmed. “But [it’s] not as bad as we thought he would be out. It’s something positive from something not so positive.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool received a timely boost at the back, with Ibrahima Konate back in the fold after returning to training.

“Ibou trained with us yesterday and trains with us today and will be in the squad tomorrow.

“Curtis is again available. He was sick, as I said, but he is available.”

He added: “Joe [Gomez] will not be available but that doesn’t have to take much longer anymore, but he will not be available for the weekend.”

Finally, Slot addressed questions surrounding Alexander Isak, offering a candid update on the striker’s recovery process.

“He’s not even on the pitch yet. I think it’s called a walker, he’s just out of his walker, so that tells you that he’s not on the pitch and not expecting him on the pitch today or tomorrow in terms of his recovery work. That’s going to take a while before he’s back, as we knew.”

As the whistle approaches, Liverpool head into the Newcastle encounter with renewed options and growing momentum, even if a few key names remain on the injury list.

All eyes now turn to Anfield, where Slot’s side will look to translate preparation into points.
