Matheus Cunha brings flair to his football, and just like his style on the pitch, his life off it moves to a powerful rhythm shaped by music.
Speaking exclusively in the debut issue of United’s new magazine, the Brazilian forward offered a glimpse into a passion that plays a key role in his balance, focus and motivation.
During the official photoshoot for the latest Stone Roses range, Cunha highlighted how music connects him with teammates and keeps the dressing-room atmosphere alive, giving special credit to one familiar face behind the decks.
“Diogo [Dalot] is an unbelievable DJ,” he revealed at the official photoshoot for the latest Stone Roses range. “He plays a little part of the world for everyone.”
From there, Cunha switched gears to his personal playlist, explaining how his roots still define his sound, even as his musical taste continues to evolve since moving to England.
“What kind of things do I like? Wow, I like a lot of Brazilian music, like pagode and ferro. I think they are the two rhythms that I like best. But when I moved to England I started to listen to some English music too.”
Just like a pre-match warm-up sharpens the body, Cunha revealed that music sharpens his mind, helping him stay locked in when it matters most.
“Music, for me, is everything. It changes my energy when I need it. It gives me peace. It gives me everything. I use it to push me, to help me maintain my focus.”
Beyond listening, the United attacker is also hands-on with his love for sound, playing a traditional Brazilian instrument that keeps him connected to home.
“Music is really part of my life. I also play pandeiro, which is a percussion instrument. It’s amazing. It’s nice to touch and then to listen to.
“Music is part of my life. I play when me and my friends are together.”
For Cunha, the rhythm never stops — and just like his football, it’s all about timing, energy and expression.
