Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has hailed new signing Jorgen Strand Larsen’s qualities ahead of his club debut against Brighton on Sunday.
The Norwegian forward joined the Eagles in a club-record £48 million deal on winter transfer deadline day from Wolves, with a fixed £43 million and an additional £3 million in add-ons.
Larsen has struggled for goals this season, but scored 15 times in his debut season for Wolves last campaign.
Speaking ahead of their weekend clash against Brighton and Hove Albion, Glasner, who will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, revealed his stance on the club’s record buy.
“He has a similar profile to JP. We wanted a tall and physical number number nine and Jorgen has a great mentality and a great character”, Glasner stated.
“He has shown it this week in training that he has this feeling inside the box. We trust in him. We’re always looking at the profiles and the character of the player, and Jorgen shows both – that’s why we had a huge effort to get him into the building. He’s shown it this week in training.”
Crystal Palace head to Brighton and Hove Albion, hoping to end their winless in the league.
The Eagles are without a win in their last 10 league games and have dropped to 15th on the standings, just three points above Nottingham Forest in 17th place.
“He’s hungry to score goals, and of course he needs to get the ball in the right areas, but he has this feeling where to move in the box – he’s scored a few nice goals”, Glasner added.
Larsen will be eyeing a goalscoring debut for Crystal Palace, hoping to help them to secure a win and move up the standings.
