Howe hails Newcastle response as Ramsey strike sinks Spurs

Newcastle United produced a composed and clinical display to secure a valuable away victory over Tottenham Hotspur, and manager Eddie Howe was quick to praise his side’s character in a game that threatened to swing against them.

The Magpies largely dictated proceedings, especially in the first half, yet found themselves momentarily pegged back when Spurs struck against the run of play.

Nevertheless, instead of allowing momentum to shift, Newcastle regrouped, stepped up the intensity, and delivered the decisive blow.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, Howe reflected on both the performance and the resilience shown by his players.

“Good performance from us tonight. A strange game because I don’t think we deserved to be level when Tottenham scored against the run of play,” said the manager.

“Big credit to the lads because the game could have got away from us but we responded really well, scored a second goal, and thankfully defended the last few minutes really well.”

Newcastle’s ability to weather late pressure ultimately sealed the three points, but it was Jacob Ramsey’s superb strike that proved to be the turning point.

The midfielder showcased his technical quality with a composed finish that underlined his growing influence in the side.

Howe was full of praise for the former Aston Villa man, Jacob Ramsey.

“Really good goal. I mean, he’s such a good technical player and I thought you saw that,” he said.

“I thought the two number eights today for us, Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey, were excellent today. Physically really good.

“I thought we controlled the first half in part due to them and Bruno’s performance. So I was really happy and delighted he scored, because I think he needed that sort of recognition because his recent performances have been very good.”

In addition to Ramsey’s decisive moment, Howe highlighted the midfield balance provided by Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes, whose control and energy allowed Newcastle to dominate key phases of the contest.

All in all, it was a performance built on discipline, tactical awareness, and timely execution: qualities that could prove crucial as the season gathers pace.

With confidence building and key players stepping up, Newcastle’s push continues to gather momentum.
