Liverpool’s Gareth Taylor clinches January WSL Manager of the Month

Gareth Taylor has been crowned Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month for January after steering Liverpool FC Women through an impressive unbeaten run to start 2026.

The Reds opened the new year with a disciplined goalless draw against London City Lionesses before shifting gears to secure a confident 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

That strong sequence of results ensured momentum in the league and ultimately earned Taylor recognition as the division’s standout boss for the month.

In a competitive field, Taylor edged out Andree Jeglertz, Marc Skinner and Renee Slegers to claim the award, underlining Liverpool’s steady progress in the top flight.

Reacting to the honour, Taylor was quick to highlight the collective effort behind the achievement.

“We were pleased to see an improved January and this award is recognition of the tremendous hard work put in by the players, our coaching staff and all the backroom team here at Melwood,” said Taylor.

“The addition of the new players in the January window allowed us to give some help to the squad and to be able to manage from the sides more effectively during games.

“But we need this to be just the foundation and we know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us to secure our place in this division and to start building to where we want to be and where our fans, who have been right behind us throughout, want us to be.”

Liverpool’s January resurgence has injected belief into their campaign, particularly as the battle to consolidate their WSL status intensifies.

The integration of new signings has added depth and flexibility, allowing Taylor to rotate and adapt tactically when needed.

However, as the manager himself made clear, this accolade is only a stepping stone.

The focus now shifts from recognition to results, as Liverpool aim to build consistency and climb further up the table.

With confidence restored and unity evident at Melwood, Taylor’s side will look to carry their January spark into the crucial months ahead.
