Nottingham Forest announce Vitor Pereira as new head coach

Vitor Pereira has been appointed as the new head coach of Nottingham Forest on an 18-month deal, becoming their fourth permanent manager of the season.

Forest have already dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, who lasted only 39 days at the job, while Sean Dyche was sacked last week after 114 days in charge of the club.

The Tricky Trees had been held to a goalless draw by Premier League’s bottom club Wolves despite mustering 35 attempts, leading to the dismissal of Dyche.

They become the first club in the history of the English top-flight to complete a season with four different permanent managers in charge.

Meanwhile, Pereira was the favourite to take over the role and has now joined the club until the summer of 2027, marking his first managerial role since leaving Wolves earlier in the season after a winless start to the league campaign.

The Portuguese helped the West Midlands club to survive relegation last season and now takes over at Nottingham Forest with the same ambition, as the club currently sit 17th on the table, three points above the drop zone.

The 57-year-old’s coaching staff will include Filipe Jorge Monteiro Almeida and Luis Miguel Moreira Da Silva as his assistant coaches.

Pereira will take over training session this week and his first match will come on Thursday, when Forest face his former club Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Europa League playoff round.

He will then lead them out in the Premier League for the first time on Sunday, when they welcome champions Liverpool to the City Ground.

Pereira had also previously worked under Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Greek club Olympiacos, where he won one league title and one Greek Cup before his departure and will be hoping for another impressive spell this time around.
