Fabian Hurzeler says Brighton must improve their efficiency in front of goal as they hope to end their poor run of form ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Brentford.
The Seagulls have endured a disappointing run of form and are winless in their last six matches across all competitions, including a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend.
Their dip in form comes as no surprise, having coincided with a poor run in front of goal that has seen them fail to score in their last three matches.
They have also managed more than one goal in a game just once since January, when they recorded a 2–1 win over Manchester United in their FA Cup third-round clash.
Speaking during his pre-match duties on Friday morning, the 32-year-old urged his side to make better use of their chances to improve on their form.
“We know we need to score goals, but in the end it’s a balance between the defence stability, keeping a clean sheet and controlling the game in possession”, Hurzeler stated.
“And all the games we had opportunities to score. We had opportunities to make a goal, so that’s why it doesn’t look great regarding goal scoring at the moment, but we are still very convinced that we are able to score goals tomorrow.”
Brighton visit the Gtech Community Stadium later tomorrow to face an in-form Brentford side, hoping for a victory to end their winless run.
The Seagulls have dropped to 14th on the Premier League standings and are just four points above Nottingham Forest in 17th position.
Of course, the results aren’t great but we keep focusing on the process, we keep focusing on the things we can influence. We keep focusing on being a great unit and being together”, Hurzeler continued.
“We all have the belief, and that’s also what the board showed, and we all have to believe that we can get out of the situation even stronger. Therefore, we have to try to go for it tomorrow.”
A win for Brighton against Brentford will ease pressure on their young manager and move them further away from the drop zone.
