Igor Tudor has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur will avoid relegation this season, ahead of Sunday’s must-win Premier League clash with Fulham.
Spurs head to the Craven Cottage for another London derby on the back of a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend and in search of their first win of 2026.
Tottenham have dropped to 16th on the Premier League standings with 29 points, two above 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and four above the drop zone after a poor season.
Speaking during his prematch press conference on Thursday, Tudor who is eyeing his first victory in charge, is confident that the team will beat the drop this season.
“No, I never used, but not because it’s something to scare or something, it’s like, I don’t know how to explain, it’s a dangerous word or we not speak with, you know”, Tudor said when asked if he discussed the prospects of relegation with the players.
“It’s about that we need to be focused on ourselves, really. That’s what I said here. And I also in the same way I speak with my players, to be focused on ourselves, you know, on the training. That’s the only thing we can change.
“So there is nothing to think about the future or the points here, you know. The points come as a consequence of the training and the games. So that’s the focus, that’s the main and only focus we need to have.”
Tottenham face Fulham, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland in their next five league matches and must begin to turn in results to avoid being drawn into the battle for survival.
Spurs have won only seven times in the Premier League this season, a number that is only more than the bottom three teams.
“I believe that the mentality changes by training. When the right thing is there and then to have enough training sessions that you can transmit this thing to your team that on Sunday you see, you know, from the fans, from the stadium”, Tudor continued.
“So that’s the key, you know, there’s hard work in other ways and there is no other possibility.”
A win on Sunday will give Tottenham confidence heading into their next few matches, although a defeat could see them drop further in the standings especially if Nottingham Forest defeat Brighton in their own match.
