Thierno Barry scored a late goal as Everton sealed a 3-2 victory against Newcastle United in a dramatic Premier League showdown at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The Toffees had taken the lead in the clash through Jarrad Branthwaite, but Jacob Ramsey equalized for the home side.
Beto had put the visitors back in front before two goals in the space of two minutes late on ended up with Barry cancelling out Jacob Murphy’s equalizer.
Newcastle United went into the clash on the back of a 3-2 win over Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, while Everton had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Monday night.
The away side grabbed a deserved lead in the 19th minute as Branthwaite headed in from a superb corner kick delivery from James Garner.
Newcastle were back on level terms in the 32nd minute as Ramsey found space and fired in a shot that took a huge deflection off Branthwaite and wrong-footed Jordan Pickford in goal.
However, Everton were back ahead two minutes later as Beto took advantage of poor goalkeeping from Nick Pope and fired into the net from close range.
Everton held a 2-1 advantage into the break, with a lot to play for in the second 45 minutes of action.
Both sides wasted several goalscoring opportunities in the second half, with Beto missing a great chance when he was denied by the crossbar after finding himself one on one against Pickford
Murphy then grabbed a late equalizer in the 82nd minute of the clash thanks to another deflection, this time off Idrissa Gueye.
That lasted just one minute as Everton went ahead once again when Barry was on hand to score after good work by Dewsbury-Hall.
Pickford also had to deny Sandro Tonali, while a late penalty call for Newcastle was denied by VAR as Everton sealed a remarkable 3-2 win.
The Toffees moved up to eighth on the standings, while Newcastle remained in 12th place ahead of next midweek fixtures.
