Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Harry Kane will miss Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga showdown against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday night.
The England international has been in sensational form this season and is gradually closing in on Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals scored in a single season.
Kane already has 30 goals in the German league and over 40 goals across all competitions, but will be a big miss for the Bavarians on Friday.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Kompany confirmed the news and hoped the injury suffered by the England captain is not too serious
“He got a knock on his calf and hasn’t recovered yet,” Kompany said.
“It’s nothing serious for the time being but we’d need maybe another a day for him to be involved. We’re pretty relaxed. Of course we would have liked Harry to be involved but these things happen.”
Bayern Munich are heading straight for their second Bundesliga title this season and have already opened up an 11-point gap over Borussia Dortmund, following last weekend’s victory in the der klassiker.
A win on Friday night would increase the lead to 14 points ahead of Dortmund’s clash against Koln on Saturday.
“We’ve had an 11-point lead before and we know how quickly that can change,” said Kompany.
“We’re just looking at our performance and our victories. I looked at the table once after the game against Dortmund and it looked good. But after that, once again the only thing that mattered was Gladbach. It sounds like a cliche, but it’s a way of life for me.”
Bayern Munich top the standings with 63 points after an impressive campaign and face Monchengladbach this weekend in the German Bundesliga, before heading to Atalanta in midweek for the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash.
