Daniel Farke has been handed a one-match touchline ban following his red card during Leeds United’s narrow defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend.
The Leeds boss was dismissed after the final whistle of the 1-0 loss when he jogged onto the pitch to confront referee Peter Bankes.
The incident led to disciplinary action from The Football Association, which confirmed the German coach would serve a one-game suspension alongside an £8,000 fine.
Although Farke maintained he did not swear or behave aggressively towards the match official, he ultimately chose to accept the punishment rather than challenge the charge. Contesting the decision could have potentially led to a longer suspension.
As a result, Farke will miss Leeds’ upcoming FA Cup fifth-round clash against Norwich City on Sunday.
However, the manager is expected to return to the dugout in time for their next league outing against Crystal Palace on March 15.
Reflecting on the incident earlier, Farke offered a light-hearted explanation for the red card, suggesting his manner of approaching the pitch may have played a part.
“I’m not like a butterfly or unbelievably cute when I jog. I have learned my lesson – I will never jog again,” remarked Farke.
Meanwhile, the FA confirmed the disciplinary outcome in an official statement.
“Daniel Farke has been sanctioned for misconduct following the Premier League fixture between Leeds and Manchester City on Saturday, February 28.
“It was alleged that the manager entered the field of play at full-time to confront the match official/s, contrary to Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.
“Daniel Farke subsequently admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard one-match suspension and £8,000 fine.”
With the matter now settled, Leeds will turn their focus back to the pitch as they prepare for the crucial cup encounter before resuming league action.
