Wolves manager Rob Edwards is looking forward to another difficult clash when his side face Premier League champions Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday.
Both sides met in the Premier League on Tuesday night, with the West Midlands side claiming a shock 2-1 win that dashed the Reds hopes of a top-four finish.
Rodrigo Gomes opened the scoring in that clash, before Andre scored the winner in stoppage-time after Mohamed Salah had pulled Liverpool level.
“It’s been a nice few weeks for the club. There’s been a lot of hard work, and it’s nice that we’ve had some rewards with points. I’m under no illusions that the games have been close, they have been tight, and they could go either way,” Edwards said.
“Respecting that, we’ve got to play Liverpool again tomorrow and we did do well, but they dominated large parts, and we knew that was going to be the way and we did limit them to few big chances.”
The win was Wolves first over Liverpool in seven meetings and it will take another huge performance to progress from their FA Cup tie.
Edwards’ side have only lost one of their last six matches across all competitions, recording impressive wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool in their last two outings.
The West Midlands club thrashed Shrewsbury 6-1 in their third round clash, before narrowly edging Grimsby Town 1-0 in the fourth round, while a win at the Molineux on Friday would see them advance to the last eight stage.
“Also, those games have been tight and fine margins, but the lads deserve a lot of credit, because they’re working really hard and competing with some top, top teams”, Edwards continued.
Wolves and Liverpool face-off for the second time in four days, with a place in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on the line in the encounter.
