Regis Le Bris has urged Sunderland to improve on their performances ahead of their Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
The Black Cats have seen their form drop in recent weeks despite a decent start to the campaign and will hope to return to winning ways when they welcome the Seagulls to the Stadium of Light in Saturday’s encounter.
Le Bris’ men have been defeated in their last two home league outings, while they were also shocked by League One outfit Port Vale in the FA Cup fifth round last weekend.
However, they have been able to pick up four points from their last two league games, including a remarkable 1-0 win at Leeds United.
“I understand how difficult this league is and Brighton is a well-established team in the Premier League with a clear identity,” Le Bris told the club website.
“They are really good on the ball, they are really good at mobility and they can score in many different ways. Their counter press is outstanding.
“We will have to embrace the challenge, reset and show our desire (to win the game).
“We also need to show the quality of our squad, especially after two (home) defeats in a row”, the Frenchman added.
Sunderland already have 40 points in 11th-place and a win could be enough to move them into the top half, depending on results elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Brighton are in 14th position and are three points behind the Black Cats, leaving no margin for error for the Black Cats.
“We need to change the dynamic and it is going to be an exciting challenge”, Le Bris continued.
“Every game is an opportunity to win three points, but against every team in this league is tough. Everyone can beat everyone in this league.
“We have to keep going because we don’t know if 40 points will be enough, and we want to keep being ambitious”, he concluded.
Sunderland will be hoping to return to winning ways in front of their home fans, beginning with Saturday’s clash against Brighton by 4 PM.
