Brentford’s Andrews questions Wolves goal after controversial build-up

Keith Andrews has voiced his frustration after Brentford conceded a controversial goal in their clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

The incident occurred just before half-time when Adam Armstrong pulled a goal back for Wolves.

However, the build-up to the strike quickly sparked debate, with Brentford’s bench questioning whether the goal should have stood.

Moments earlier, Ladislav Krejci appeared to play a back pass under pressure from Dango Ouattara, with goalkeeper Jose Sa handling the ball before releasing it to Santiago Bueno to initiate the attacking move.

The sequence eventually led to Armstrong finding the net, shifting the momentum of the contest.

Despite protests, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) clarified that the incident could not be reviewed, as it was not deemed part of the same attacking phase after possession had briefly changed before Jean-Ricner Bellegarde regained control and assisted the goal.

Speaking after the match, Andrews suggested the decision was questionable but admitted his side should have focused on other aspects of their performance.

“I think the fact that I’ve been in three interviews now and I’ve been asking everyone about it would suggest that it probably was,” said Andrews.

“We can’t really affect that, and we can affect a lot of other things tonight that we didn’t.”

While clearly frustrated, the Brentford boss was keen not to dwell excessively on the controversy, choosing instead to shift attention to his team’s overall display.

“I don’t really want to go down the route of polluting my thoughts with it. I saw it clearly.”

As the debate lingers, the moment adds another layer of controversy to a tightly contested English top-flight encounter, highlighting once again the fine margins and decisions that can influence the outcome of matches at the highest level.
