Liverpool’s Isak return to boost squad despite Alisson’s absence against Fulham

Liverpool head into their clash with Fulham facing a mixed injury update, as a key absence is counterbalanced by a timely attacking return.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains sidelined and will not feature, continuing his recovery from a muscle injury that has already ruled him out of the Reds’ last three matches.

Notably, Liverpool have struggled in his absence: conceding eight goals and managing just one at the other end, a dip that has put pressure on their top-five ambitions.

As the defensive concerns linger, manager Arne Slot offered a clear update on his No.1’s situation.

“We don’t get a player back yet but Alisson is working hard to find his way back in the squad. He will not be back in the squad,” said Slot.

However, in a positive attacking twist, Alexander Isak is back in contention after making a brief return from injury against Paris Saint-Germain.

The forward’s comeback comes at a crucial juncture, with Liverpool needing a clinical edge in front of goal.

Isak’s journey back has been far from straightforward. Since his high-profile move, he has battled fitness issues and setbacks, including a serious ankle injury sustained against Tottenham Hotspur, which required surgery following a fibula fracture.

Now, as momentum begins to build, Slot underlined the striker’s importance in the run-in.

“Alex [Isak] is available for us again is vital for us, of course. It was hard for us to convert chances to goals and he has been a goalscorer his whole life.

“To have him back is really nice. It was only 15 minutes but it’s good to have him back and hopefully we can grow his minutes.

“Last time, it took him a while but we are hoping after the great rehab period that we can bring him faster to the level.”

Meanwhile, fitness concerns still hover over Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez, adding another layer of uncertainty ahead of kickoff.

As Liverpool prepare to kick off, the narrative is clear: defensive solidity remains a concern without Alisson, but with Isak back in the attacking third, the Reds will be hoping to rediscover their cutting edge when it matters most.
