Aston Villa manager Unai Emery shifted the spotlight onto Marco Bizot after the goalkeeper delivered a composed performance following a dramatic late call-up in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
In a surprising twist before kickoff, first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was forced to withdraw during the warm-up after experiencing discomfort in his calf.
Consequently, Bizot was thrown into action at the last minute, stepping in under pressure.
Despite the sudden change, Villa started brightly and grabbed an early advantage through a Murillo own goal.
However, Nottingham Forest responded before halftime, as Neco Williams fired home a powerful effort to level proceedings and set up a tightly contested encounter.
As the match progressed, Bizot remained calm and assured between the sticks, showing strong positioning and confidence to help Villa secure a valuable point.
His performance, in turn, drew high praise from Emery, who chose to highlight the Dutchman’s readiness rather than dwell on Martinez’s recurring fitness concerns.
“My only focus is everything that happens to try to have a good response,” he replied when asked whether he could rely on Martinez.
“He was telling us, just in the warm-up, he was not feeling comfortable with his calf.
“He was feeling pain. And of course, the most important thing is how Marco responded to this circumstance. It’s really fantastic.
“If he was ready like he was before, Marco Bizot is really fantastic.
“Of course, he (Martinez) needs to understand his pain, and in the circumstances just before the match, he was in pain.
“And of course, in this situation, it is, ‘OK, change and another player’ and how he played today.
“Marco is really fantastic, and to be ready, because Marco Bizot is a fantastic goalkeeper, fantastic experience, and he’s intelligent.
“He’s a fantastic guy.”
Ultimately, while Martinez’s late withdrawal added an element of uncertainty, Bizot’s solid display ensured Villa stayed on course.
As fixtures continue to come thick and fast, Emery will be encouraged by the depth and reliability within his squad.
