Neuer reacts to Bayern Munich’s seven-goal thriller against Real Madrid

Bayern Munich delivered a sensational performance under the lights at the Allianz Arena, edging past Real Madrid with a 4-3 second-leg victory to seal a 6-4 aggregate triumph and book a place in the Champions League semi-finals.

In what proved to be a classic European showdown, the Bavarians held their nerve in a high-octane contest, combining resilience with clinical finishing to overcome their Spanish rivals.

Up next, Bayern will lock horns with Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster semi-final clash.

After the final whistle, Manuel Neuer reflected on a dramatic night that lived up to the competition’s elite reputation.

“I believe we first need to process what happened tonight. That was a proper Champions League night, the kind you don’t often experience,” the shot-stopper said.

“For the spectators – and also for us – it was certainly special.”

Despite the victory, Neuer openly admitted to a costly error during the game, showing accountability in the heat of the moment.

“I actually wanted to play the ball out wide but didn’t strike it well at all. It was just a bad pass from me.

“He then takes it first-time with his strong left foot, which we also saw later with the free kick. There’s a huge amount of power behind it.”

However, Bayern’s response defined the match, as they stayed composed and executed their game plan when it mattered most.

“Nevertheless, we stuck to our game, we particularly wanted to remain assured around the penalty box and wait for our chances.

“They came late but we took them. We deserved to win in the end.”

Neuer also highlighted a key defensive moment, pulling off a crucial save to deny Kylian Mbappe in a decisive phase of the game.

“The save from Mbappe was important. It was a good cross, he took it on the volley – and then it’s a typical kind of ball that I somehow claw away.”

Looking ahead, the Bayern captain expects another fiercely contested battle as they prepare to face PSG in the semi-finals.

“It’ll be another even contest against PSG. Our recent games have always been close. We’re looking forward to it – away in Paris and then back at home.”

Finally, Neuer praised the electric atmosphere at the Allianz Arena, acknowledging the role of the fans in driving the team forward.

“The atmosphere today was excellent, we want to experience that again. A bit of drama? I think that’s just part of it.”

With momentum firmly on their side, Bayern now shift focus to the semi-finals, aiming to carry their thrilling form into another decisive European showdown.
