Trevoh Chalobah has defended the performance of Chelsea after their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night.
The Blues suffered their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring a goal, equalling a 114-year record in the process.
While head coach Liam Rosenior labelled the players’ performance as not up to standard, Chalobah believes they did their best and look forward to improving in their next outing.
We gave it our all. Just not the best side. We obviously had a gameplan and we tried to execute it”, Chalobah said.
“We tried our best, we worked on it throughout the week. Obviously we got beat today. We’ve just got to go again. We can’t dwell on these moments, we’ve got to look forward to the next game.”
As players we have to be accountable for the performance. We know how much the fans have been behind us and we know they are disappointed with the results, not winning at the moment. We just have to stick together and pull through.”
Chelsea reached a new low on Tuesday night, as pressure continue to mount on Rosenior at the club.
The Blues have now dropped to seventh and could drop even further depending on results elsewhere.
Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck scored the goals as Brighton claimed a dominant win at the American Express Stadium.
“I thought personally that the boys were running their socks off. Everyone in the changing room is tired. It’s nothing to do with effort. We gave it our all, we just got beat today”, Chalobah added.
“We ran today. You can say the stats this the stats that, but I can see the boys are tired, and we ran, so I don’t know.”
Chelsea return to action on Sunday against Leeds United in the FA Cup semifinal, hoping for a win to turn around their poor form.
