Vincent Kompany has backed Jamal Musiala to take his game to a completely different level next season, as the playmaker continues his return to full fitness.
The German international suffered a horror injury during the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA Club World Cup last summer after he was involved in a collision with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
He suffered a broken leg which forced him to miss a larger part of the season, before making his return to action in January.
Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s crucial German Cup semifinal clash against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, Kompany believes Musiala still has a major role to play for the club.
“Jamal is in a good phase at the moment”, Kompany said.
“I said it early on, back in January, that he’s developed physically. He’s now also physically close to his best level, not just in terms of strength but also in terms of his willingness to run.
“Now the question is when will ‘Magic Musiala’ return? It will come 100%. The moments are there. But even now, what the lad is doing at the moment is very dangerous in front of goal.”
Musiala has managed 16 appearances across all competitions as he works his way back to full fitness and will be expected to take on a more influential role especially with Serge Gnabry out with injury.
Bayern have not reached the final of the German Cup since 2020, but will be brimming with much confidence after clinching the Bundesliga title last weekend.
“When he has this total freedom again, and it will come back, then you will have an even more developed version of Musiala and that, as a coach, makes me happy,” Kompany added.
“But with nine scorer points in 600 minutes he has shown he is ready.”
Bayern Munich also have a blockbuster UCL semifinal to prepare for, with their first leg encounter against champions PSG to hold next week.
