Eddie Howe has challenged Newcastle United to end their poor run of form with a good performance when they face Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Magpies have lost their last four matches across all competitions and have just two wins from their last nine matches across all competitions.
Pressure has built over Howe in recent outings due to their below par display, but the Englishman is confident of turning things around when they visit the Emirates later tomorrow.
“It is definitely an opportunity for us because the next game is always an opportunity to prove yourselves all over again, most importantly to ourselves, that we owe it to everybody at the club, to ourselves to commit everything we have to try and get a result, as we did very recently at Chelsea”, Howe revealed.
“We can take a lot from that game, in terms of our attitude, how we played and the spirit and togetherness we showed.
Newcastle last league win came in a shock 1-0 win at Chelsea and a win over Arsenal on Saturday would deal a major blow in the title hopes of the North London club.
The Magpies, meanwhile, are 14th with 42 points and have a very slim chance of sealing an European qualification with just five games left to play, as they are currently seven points off the pace.
“When you have had a difficult run it can seem like you’ve been in it a long period of time, probably with an international break, a big length of gap we had between games, it felt that way for us. We have to tap into games we performed really well in”, Howe said.
Newcastle United have won three of the last five matches between these two sides, although Arsenal were 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture last September.
