Tounekti welcomes Celtic competition and James Forrest influence

Sebastian Tounekti has embraced the fierce competition at Celtic, while also paying tribute to club legend James Forrest for his influence both on and off the pitch.

The winger, who was replaced by Forrest during Celtic’s recent clash against Hibernian, believes battling for positions is part of the standard expected at a top club.

“When you play for Celtic, it has to be that you have to fight for every spot,” said Tounekti.

“I don’t think everyone should be secure. I think there should be a fight for every place when you play for a massive club like this.”

As the season races forward, Tounekti feels the internal competition is helping to sharpen the squad and maintain high performance levels across the dressing room.

“It’s great for the team because then we have a squad who is pushing each other in the right way.”

Meanwhile, Forrest’s recent one-year contract extension has further highlighted his importance around the club.

Tounekti was quick to praise the experienced winger, describing him as both a leader and role model.

“First of all, he’s a great person. He’s so humble. He has won so many trophies here and he’s a big legend.”

The 23-year-old also revealed he studies Forrest closely, alongside the club’s other attacking players, as he aims to improve his own game and cement his place in Celtic’s setup.

“As a winger, you want to study other wingers also.

“100 per cent, I study him and all of the other guys who are playing in the winger position.”

With competition heating up and standards remaining sky-high, Tounekti appears fully ready to keep battling for his opportunity in Celtic colours.
