Chelsea provide injury update on Garnacho ahead of Liverpool clash

Chelsea interim head coach Calum McFarlane has provided the latest injury news on Alejandro Garnacho and other members of the squad ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Liverpool.

The Blues have lost six consecutive matches in the league and head to Anfield hoping to end that run and move closer to sealing a sixth place finish, as they can no longer finish in the top five.

Argentine forward Garnacho missed last Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest and is also a doubt for Saturday’s clash with an injury.

The summer signing for Manchester United has endured a difficult debut campaign in West London and may miss a second straight match having picked up a knock, alongside Portuguese forward Pedro Neto.

“Neto and Garnacho are carrying knocks so it is looking unlikely that they will be available”, the Chelsea boss said.

Garnacho has made 23 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League this season, but has only managed a single goal, scoring in a 2-1 defeat against Sunderland last October.

The 21-year-old had featured in the last seven league outings, before missing Monday’s clash against the Tricky Trees.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was involved in a collision with Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White in the defeat, will also be absent from Saturday’s clash as he continues his recovery.

“Rob is also not going to be available after the injury that he sustained in the Nottingham Forest game.”

Despite the departure of Liam Rosenior last month, Chelsea slumped to another defeat in the league, marking their sixth straight as their difficult season continued.

However, they managed to score this time when Joao Pedro netted a stoppage-time overhead kick to mark their first goal in the league since March 4.

A defeat at Anfield could end their hopes of an European finish, with just a handful of games remaining.
