Barcelona seal La Liga title with victory over Real Madrid

Barcelona were crowned champions of the 2025-26 La Liga season following an emphatic 2-0 win over rivals Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday night.

The Blaugrana had opened a 11-point lead at the top and needed to avoid defeat to seal the title against their fierce rivals in Sunday’s clash.

They did just that with two first half goals setting the tone for victory as they secured the league title for a second straight season, adding to the Spanish Supercup they won earlier in the year.

Barcelona were without superstar Lamine Yamal for the clash due to injury, while Kylian Mbappe was missing for Real Madrid. Los Blancos had made the headlines for the wrong reasons in the buildup to the clash and were also without Federico Valverde as well.

It took just few minutes for Barcelona to move in front as Marcus Rashford fired in a sublime free kick past the returning Thibaut Courtois, before Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo combined as the former fired in a second, setting the tone for victory.

Gonzalo Garcia and Vinicius Junior were both denied, while Courtois was called into action by Rashford as Barcelona took a two-goal lead into the break.

The Blaugrana held on in the second half and sprung into celebrations immediately the referee blew the whistle for full time, marking the first time in history they have won the title in front of their rivals.

It also marks Barcelona’s 29th La Liga title overall and their third in four seasons as they continued their dominance of Spain in recent years.

Meanwhile, it marked a second league title in as many seasons and five trophies overall for manager Hansi Flick, who had lost his father earlier in the day.
