UCL: Gary Neville reveals Arsenal’s winning formula against Paris Saint-Germain

Gary Neville believes Arsenal have the momentum and mentality to become champions of Europe, but insists they must stick to a disciplined tactical approach against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

The former Manchester United captain praised Mikel Arteta’s side for building confidence at the perfect stage of the season after their dramatic run in both domestic and European competitions.

Arsenal head into the final aiming to end a 22-year wait for a major European crown, while PSG are chasing consecutive Champions League titles after dominating Europe in recent seasons.

Neville admitted the French champions possess superior quality on paper, especially in attack, but believes Arsenal can still triumph if they lean on their defensive structure and physical intensity rather than getting dragged into an open contest.

The Sky Sports pundit pointed to Arsenal’s recent victories and Manchester City’s dropped points as signs that belief is rapidly growing inside the Emirates camp.

“Arsenal have got such momentum now,” Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast.

“They beat Atletico Madrid, watched Man City drop points at Everton and then winning at West Ham in that way.

“Winning it that way is far more special that winning the game 3-0, you’d love to win games easily but those type of results build confidence, resilience and momentum.

“The Arsenal players should be in dreamland now, they should be unstoppable, nothing should be able to stop them now.”

As the countdown to Budapest continues, Neville warned Arsenal against trying to outplay PSG in a technical battle, insisting pragmatism could be the key to lifting the trophy.

Instead, he urged Arteta’s men to trust their defensive identity and game management over the full 90 minutes.

“In the Champions League final they need to think about their defensive ability and strength and think how they can over 90 minutes beat a team who are better than them.

“Because PSG are better than them, you can’t get away from that. PSG are a better team than Arsenal right now and they’ve demonstrated that over the last two seasons.”
