Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has hit back at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez after his explosive comments about La Liga titles sparked fresh tension between Spain’s biggest rivals.
Perez recently caused controversy during a public appearance when he claimed Real Madrid had been denied several league crowns over the years.
“I’ve won seven Champions Leagues and seven La Liga titles out of 14, but I could have won all 14 La Liga titles because the rest were stolen from me,” said the Madrid president.
Those remarks quickly reached Barcelona’s dressing room, with Fermin becoming one of the first Barca players to publicly respond.
Speaking on Cadena SER’s Que T’hi Jugues, the young midfielder initially tried to keep the focus on Barcelona’s own ambitions.
“Yes, we’ve seen it like everyone else, but we always focus on what’s happening here,” he explained.
However, Fermin later made it clear he strongly disagreed with Perez’s accusation.
“Everyone has their own view of things. I don’t think it’s right to say that Barca have stolen seven league titles because they had Messi, Iniesta and Xavi.
“It’s impossible. Nor do we care. We’re on our own path; we don’t care what happens outside Barca, we’re very focused on our own business.”
The Barcelona midfielder also insisted the club remains fully focused on continuing its current progress rather than engaging in off-field distractions.
“I don’t mind because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don’t think it was right to say that.
“We’re very focused on what’s happening at Barca, who are going through a very good spell. I’m sure the trophies will come, and we’re very happy with what we’re doing.”
Fermin also spoke about the fierce rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, suggesting emotional reactions are part of football at the highest level.
“The rivalry is the same because I think it’s always existed, just as we are their rivals.
“I don’t think we like them getting upset about these things either, because I believe that’s just football. We don’t disrespect any player or team.
“I can’t understand it, but in the end, it’s normal to be angry when you lose. But when they win, they’ll do the same and we’ll accept it.”
The midfielder ended the interview with a passionate declaration of loyalty to Barcelona when asked about suggestions his style could fit Real Madrid.
“I’m a Barca man through and through; it’s impossible for me to go to Madrid – I’ll always be a Barca man,” he concluded.
