Calvert-Lewin seals last-gasp win for Leeds United over Brighton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored deep into stoppage-time as Leeds United sealed a 1-0 win over Brighton at Elland Road on Sunday.

The England forward had also scored in their last league game against Tottenham Hotspur, as he continues to strengthen his case for a call-up to Three Lions World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, Brighton went into the clash hoping for a win to boost their European chances ahead of the final weekend of the 2025-26 season.

Leeds started brightly and had chances to break the deadlock, before Brighton grew into the game and had chances of their own as well in an entertaining opening to the encounter.

Lewis Dunk then produced a brilliant tackle to deny Dan James, before he headed over at the other end as the game remained goalless.

Karl Darlow and Bart Verbruggen both made crucial saves before halftime once again to keep the scoreline level heading into the first half break.

Danny Welbeck then had an attempt cleared off the line as Brighton turned up the intensity in the second half, while Darlow once again produced a routine save to keep Leeds in the match. The game was then looking set for a goalless draw until the hosts struck in stoppage-time.

Calvert-Lewin took advantage of a defensive mix-up and rounded Verbruggen before firing into an empty net to spark wild celebrations and seal a 1-0 win for the home side.

Leeds United are now up to 14th on the standings with 47 points and can still finish above that position depending on how results pan out on the final day of the season. The Whites face West Ham United at the London Stadium next weekend to round off the season.

Meanwhile, Brighton remain in seventh with 53 points and missed the chance to go ahead of Bournemouth into sixth position.
