Chelsea striker Joao Pedro reacts to Brazil omission from World Cup

Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has opened up on the disappointment of missing out on Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting the decision left him frustrated despite an impressive campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old was widely tipped to earn a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s final 26-man squad after producing one of the best seasons of his career for Chelsea, registering 20 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

However, when Brazil unveiled their squad for this summer’s tournament in North America, Pedro was among the notable omissions, while Neymar secured a sensational recall to the Selecao setup.

Following the announcement, the Brazilian attacker took to social media to share his feelings about the setback while maintaining a positive outlook.

“I tried to give my best at all times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill this dream of representing my country in a World Cup, but I remain calm and focused, as I always try to be,” he wrote.

“Joys and frustrations are part of football. From now on, I wish good luck to everyone who is there and I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home.”

Pedro’s absence has sparked debate among Brazilian supporters, especially considering his strong form throughout the season and his growing influence at Chelsea.

The versatile forward has made eight appearances for Brazil since making his senior debut in 2023, but his international career has struggled to gain consistent momentum.

During the World Cup qualification campaign, Pedro featured only four times out of a possible 12 matches.

Still, appearances during the March international break against France and Croatia had raised hopes that he would secure a place in Ancelotti’s plans for the tournament.

Instead, the Chelsea star now faces the disappointment of watching the competition from afar while waiting for another opportunity to establish himself on the international stage.

Pedro is not alone among the high-profile names left out of this summer’s World Cup, with several major stars across Europe also missing selection despite strong club campaigns.

For now, the Brazilian forward says his focus remains on supporting his national team — even if it will be from the sidelines.
