Frank Lampard received an emotional message from legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after being crowned the League Managers Association Manager of the Year.
Lampard guided Coventry City back to the Premier League for the first time since 2001 after a dominant Championship-winning campaign that transformed the Sky Blues into one of the standout stories of the season.
The former England midfielder collected both the Championship Manager of the Year award and the prestigious Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy during the LMA Awards ceremony in London.
Ferguson was unable to attend the event due to recent medical treatment, with Thomas Tuchel stepping in to present the award and read a personal message from the Manchester United icon.
“It is of course not the same without Sir Alex himself and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery so that he is hopefully with us next year on stage again. Until then I have the privilege to read this letter to you, Frank,” said Tuchel.
“Dear Frank, many congratulations on being named LMA manager of the year. You should be very proud of what you and your team have accomplished.
“Your personality as a manager and a leader is so clearly defined in how your team has played great football this season — with confidence and self-belief and I have enjoyed watching you.
“I know from speaking with you that you have great humility and that important quality of a curious mind for learning.
“I’m sure winning this award will mean a great deal to you, Frank, and I wish you the best of luck in the Premier League next season.”
Lampard’s achievement marks another major milestone in his managerial career after leading Coventry to a sensational return to the English top flight.
Elsewhere at the awards ceremony, Mikel Arteta claimed the Premier League Manager of the Year award after guiding Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years.
Arteta edged competition from several top-flight managers including Pep Guardiola, Michael Carrick and Andoni Iraola.
In the women’s categories, Andree Jeglertz was named Women’s Super League Manager of the Year after steering Manchester City Women to domestic success, while Karen Hills won the WSL 2 award with Charlton Athletic Women.
League One honours went to Michael Skubala of Lincoln City, while Andy Woodman picked up the League Two award after an impressive campaign with Bromley.
