Marcos Senesi joins Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer

Marcos Senesi has agreed a deal join Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer when his contract expires at Bournemouth this month.

The Argentine defender joined the Cherries back in 2022 from Dutch club Feyenoord and has made 128 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists.

The 29-year-old played a key role for the club in their run to finish sixth last season as they qualified for European football for the first time, but has now switched clubs to North London, joining Tottenham Hotspur.

“It’s a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player”, Senesi said.

“From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.

“Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the Club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”

Tottenham Hotspur have finished 17th in the last two Premier League campaigns and have been very active in the transfer market, making Senesi their second addition.

Spurs have also added Scotland international Andy Robertson, who left Liverpool after his contract expired as well.

Reacting to this development, head coach Roberto De Zerbi who masterminded a remarkable survival bid last season, hailed Senesi’s quality and backed him to thrive at the club.

“Marcos’ experience, quality on the ball, and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively, as well as giving us flexibility in formation”, De Zerbi said.

“He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.

“I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team.”

Tottenham will now be looking to strengthen in other areas of the pitch especially in attack and have already revived their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho ahead of the summer transfer window.
