Brazil have received a major boost ahead of their final FIFA World Cup 2026 group match, with Neymar expected to return from injury and feature against Scotland.
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the Brazilian superstar will be available for selection after missing the team’s opening two matches of the tournament, including Brazil’s impressive 3-0 victory over Haiti.
Ancelotti revealed that Neymar is making steady progress as he works his way back from a right calf injury.
“Neymar will train individually tomorrow [Saturday]. On Monday he will be with the team and he will be ready for the game against Scotland,” declared Ancelotti.
The 34-year-old forward has been working away from full team sessions since joining Brazil’s World Cup squad while recovering from the injury he suffered during his time with Brazilian club Santos.
Neymar’s possible return will provide another attacking option for Brazil as they prepare for the decisive Group C meeting in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The veteran remains Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 79 goals in 129 appearances for the national team.
His experience and creativity have been viewed as important assets as Brazil chase World Cup success.
Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior also expressed his excitement about Neymar’s possible comeback, describing the forward’s influence inside the squad as vital.
“Neymar is a very important player for us. We hope he can play in the next match,” the winger said.
“We are happy with his progress. Having him with the group is very important for all of us. He is my idol and has always given me a lot of support. I hope he comes back for the next game and helps us throughout the World Cup.”
Neymar’s inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup squad had previously sparked debate due to his injury history, especially after he suffered a serious knee injury in 2023 that disrupted his international and club career.
However, his performances for Santos before the tournament offered encouragement.
The attacker recorded four goals and two assists in eight appearances this year, showing signs that he could still influence matches at the highest level.
With Brazil already building momentum after their win over Haiti, Neymar’s return could add another layer of quality to Ancelotti’s squad as they look to finish the group stage strongly against Scotland.
