Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid have completed a deal for South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in on a five-year deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old becomes the club’s third addition of the summer after Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen and Morten Hjulmand from Portuguese side Sporting CP.
Lee Kang-in began his career at Valencia, before moving on to Mallorca in 2021 and he spent two years at the Spanish side as well.
The Korean midfielder then moved to the French club in 2023, where he won 12 trophies at the club before finally completing his departure to Atletico Madrid.
He had seen playing time reduced over the last few months due to the emergence of Joao Neves and Vitinha in midfield and had been reduced to several substitute appearances over the course of the campaign.
Kang-in played 124 games across all competitions for PSG, scoring 16 goals and providing 16 assists and will now embark on the next chapter of his career in Spain.
“Lee Kang-in is a player who is truly difficult to stop. He effectively widens the field by moving from the wing into the centre and delivering sharp passes. Not only is his one-on-one dribbling ability threatening, but his long-range shooting is also very dangerous”, Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre said of Kang-in ahead of their clash against South Korea at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Korean star will now be hoping for a key role at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone next season, with the Copa del Rey finalists aiming to challenge for trophies next season.
Atletico have not won the La Liga since 2021 and are hoping to end their duck by pipping Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to the crown next season.
