Maguire backs Manchester United for more summer arrivals

Harry Maguire has backed Manchester United to make more signings in the summer transfer window as they continue preparations for the 2026-27 season.

The England international, who signed a one-year contract extension at the club at the end of last season, is expected to play a key role in defence under Michael Carrick next season.

The Red Devils have already started recruitments this summer and have already signed several players as they aim to compete for trophies and also mount a stronger challenge on their return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

Manchester United have already signed Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow and Youri Tielemans this summer, and are still actively exploring moves for a midfielder and also a left winger ahead of next season.

Speaking during an interview, Maguire maintained confidence that the three-time European champions will still do more business before the start of the season.

“I played with Tielemans for a few months at Leicester and he’s going to be an incredible signing. He’s Belgium’s captain and played the most games for Aston Villa last season. He was a big player there”, Maguire said.

Manchester United sealed a return to the UEFA Champions League after finishing third in the Premier League last season.

They had missed out on Europe’s elite competition for two consecutive seasons, but will now return for the upcoming campaign.

“Hopefully more signings are coming through the door. I want a big competitive squad. One that we can go and challenge for the big trophies, so the more the merrier”, Maguire added.

The Red Devils have already played two matches so far in preseason. They suffered a 1-0 loss to Wrexham in their first game, before thrashing Rosenborg 5-0 in their second match.

Carrick’s side will kickstart their campaign away at Hull City on August 22, as they aim to hit the ground running and begin the season on a solid note.
