Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has broken his silence following the latest developments in the Premier League’s long-running financial case involving the club.
Al Mubarak used a message to City supporters to reaffirm the club’s position, insisting its confidence in challenging the allegations remains unchanged despite the latest media reports.
Manchester City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 following a lengthy investigation into alleged financial breaches. The case remains ongoing, with the club maintaining its innocence and preparing to contest the findings through the available legal process.
Addressing supporters directly, Al Mubarak reflected on his 18-year association with Manchester City and stressed the personal significance of the club to him.
“I have been part of this Club for 18 years. I have had the privilege to stand with you in the Etihad, at Wembley, and in Istanbul. This Club matters to me, and you have shown and told me – time and time again – how much Manchester City matters to you. This is why I am writing to you today”.
The City chairman acknowledged the questions facing supporters after Friday’s media reports, saying he had also been dealing with questions from those around him.
“Following Friday’s media reporting, many of you will have spent your evening answering questions and responding to messages from friends, family and colleagues. So have I”.
Al Mubarak said his message to his family was that the Premier League process was far from over and that Manchester City remained committed to proving its position.
“Here’s what I said to my family: The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the Club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began”.
The chairman also explained why the club has not been able to provide supporters with greater detail about its case.
“There are so many things that I would like to be able to share with you to help you understand why we feel so confident in our position. But the strict confidentiality of the legal process and our determination to respect it means I cannot do that at the moment. Even this letter underwent several legal checks to make sure it complies”.
With speculation continuing to surround the case, Al Mubarak urged supporters to focus on the statements officially released by Manchester City rather than outside commentary.
“I ask you to please carefully read the statement below, which we gave on Friday, and the statement we issued in February 2023 (also below). Every word matters and holds true”.
He also struck a defiant tone over the club’s response to the latest developments, insisting Manchester City would remain focused on its objectives.
“While some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, and there is so much noise swirling around us, nothing has changed. We have faced challenges together before and have prevailed. There remain many who want to undermine the momentum of our Club. We will not give them that opportunity”.
Manchester City’s chairman then shifted the focus towards the fixtures ahead, highlighting two major tests waiting for Pep Guardiola’s side after the international break.
“We have some exciting moments to look forward to after this international break. We travel to Anfield in a fortnight, and then host Paris St Germain in the Champions League back at Etihad Stadium – moments that give us an opportunity to celebrate the strength of the Manchester City family”.
Al Mubarak ended his message by thanking supporters for their continued backing as the club prepares for another important period both on and off the pitch.
“Thank you, as always, for your constant support. Khaldoon Al Mubarak”.
The statement comes at a significant moment for Manchester City, with the Premier League case continuing to command attention while the team prepares for a demanding run of fixtures.
For Al Mubarak, however, the message to supporters was clear: despite the uncertainty surrounding the legal process, the club intends to maintain its position and continue competing on the pitch.
