Juventus continued their impressive UEFA Europa League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands on Thursday night, earning their third win of the competition.
The Italian giants showed composure and attacking quality to overcome a strong opponent on an evening that demanded both discipline and authority. While the result secured another valuable three points, head coach Luciano Spalletti believes his side could have made the victory even more convincing.
Speaking after the match, Spalletti expressed satisfaction with the overall display, highlighting Juventus’ ability to control proceedings and produce quality football against a difficult opponent.
“I’m very pleased. We put in a solid performance against a strong side. We won a tough match by playing excellent football.
“Given how we controlled the match, we should have gone on to score a third goal.
“When you play matches on a pitch like this, it shows that you’re approaching the game with authority and quality, and with the right kind of courage.
“It’s not down to any one individual, but to the team as a whole. I’m pleased with every player, even those on the bench approached the match in the right spirit.”
The Juventus manager’s assessment reflected a performance that combined control, confidence and collective responsibility. His comments suggested that the team had delivered the kind of football he expects, particularly against opposition capable of making the contest uncomfortable.
However, Spalletti was also keen to point out that Juventus had opportunities to extend their advantage. Despite securing the 2-1 result, he felt their command of the match should have translated into another goal, underlining the importance of being more clinical when opportunities arise.
His emphasis on the team’s collective contribution was equally significant. Rather than singling out individual performers, the manager praised the attitude and commitment shown across the squad, including players who began the match on the bench.
That message highlights the importance of squad depth as Juventus continue their European campaign. With matches demanding different tactical approaches and contributions from multiple players, maintaining a positive atmosphere throughout the group could prove crucial.
The victory in the Netherlands gives Juventus another confidence boost and takes their Europa League winning tally to three this campaign. More importantly, it reinforces the team’s progress under Spalletti, whose focus remains on combining attractive football with results.
Although the manager identified room for improvement in front of goal, his overall reaction was positive. Juventus have another European victory to celebrate, but Spalletti’s comments make it clear that he expects the team to maintain its authority, courage and collective commitment as the competition progresses.
