Man City crush Sunderland to ignite the title chase

Manchester City tightened the Premier League title race with a sharp 3-0 win over Sunderland at the Etihad.

The victory came just hours after Arsenal slipped to a late defeat at Villa Park, opening the door for Pep Guardiola’s side to close the gap.

The champions struck twice from their only two shots on target in the first half.

Ruben Dias delivered the first blow, smashing in a brilliant long-range strike that lifted the stadium.

Moments later, Josko Gvardiol rose above everyone to head home Phil Foden’s in-swinging corner.

It was efficient and ruthless: exactly what the occasion demanded.

Guardiola had urged his team to reduce “chaos” after conceding eight in three league games.

City responded early, but the rhythm slipped again after the restart.

Sunderland carved out a huge chance as Gianluigi Donnarumma denied Wilson Isidor in a one-on-one.

Then Granit Xhaka rattled the post, sending a warning that the visitors weren’t finished.

City steadied themselves, though. And when Rayan Cherki glided forward with the ball, the match flipped back into full control.

Cherki produced a sensational rabona assist that found Foden inside the box.

Foden finished with ease for his fifth goal in three games, sealing another standout performance.

The win pushes City back into second place and cuts Arsenal’s lead to two points, while Sunderland drop to seventh.

The title race is back on, and City have found their stride again.
