Luis Enrique looks ahead to PSG’s Champions League clash with Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is looking forward to his side’s showdown against Premier League champions Liverpool in the Champions League quarterfinals next month.

Both sides face-off for a second consecutive season, following their meeting in the Round of 16 last year.

PSG went on to win the clash on penalties after a 1-1 draw over two legs on their way to winning a historic first-ever Champions League title in the club’s history.

Speaking ahead of their clash against Nice in the French Ligue One this weekend, Enrique revealed that the clash against Liverpool brought back beautiful memories.

“When Liverpool were the best team in Europe at the time, I remember Arne Slot speaking very well about PSG, at a time when nobody else was,” Enrique said.

“It was very positive for us, a beautiful memory of a classic tie.”

PSG won the first leg of that encounter 1-0 at Anfield, before Liverpool drew level in the clash after winning by the same scoreline in France.

However, the European champions went on to win 4-1 on penalties, sending Liverpool crashing out of the competition.

PSG already trounced an English side in the Champions League Round of 16, when they defeated Chelsea 8-2 over two legs.

“Are we the favourites now? I always try to weigh things up and control what is being said around the team”, Enrique added.

“I have players who are very intelligent and know that there is no favourite and that both sides know how to handle a game like this.”

For now, PSG will turn their attention to the French Ligue One, where they will be hoping for a win against Nice on Saturday to move back to the summit of the standings.
