Flick satisfied with Barcelona’s display after comfortable Osasuna win

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was left pleased with his side’s all-round performance after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Osasuna at Camp Nou strengthened their grip on top spot in LaLiga.

Second-half goals from Raphinha saw Barcelona move seven points clear of arch rivals Real Madrid, piling pressure on Los Blancos ahead of their trip to Alaves on Sunday.

The win extended a remarkable domestic run for Flick’s side, who have now won seven straight league matches by a margin of at least two goals, a feat the club last achieved in 2017 under Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde.

While Raphinha grabbed the headlines, Flick was quick to heap praise on his defence, with Osasuna restricted to just three shots, compared to Barcelona’s 24 efforts on goal.

“The important thing was the three points. We controlled the game; in defence we did very well. Maybe we didn’t have great chances, but we have the three points,” Flick said.

“I don’t think too much about the rest of the teams. We want to go to Villarreal and win. It’s good that the opponents feel under pressure, but that is not in our hands.

“After a few weeks in which we suffered, we are back. With all the players close to 100%, you can see the ability of the team.”

Flick also took time to praise Barcelona’s academy system after impressive displays from some of the La Masia graduates that featured in the game.

“Eric gives us stability, he played a fantastic game. Gerard has improved a lot.

“And I have already spoken enough about Cuba in the past. Playing at this level at 18 years old is brutal.

“I have to congratulate La Masia for what they have done with the young players. It’s really wonderful.”
