Man United’s Amorim disappointed after “crazy” eight-goal thriller vs Bournemouth

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was frustrated after his side’s failure to kill off Bournemouth in the first half came back to haunt them in a “crazy” eight-goal Premier League thriller at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils twice took the lead before the break, with Amad and Casemiro on the scoresheet either side of Antoine Semenyo’s breakaway equaliser, but their dominance went unrewarded.

Goals from Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier inside six second-half minutes swung the game in Bournemouth’s favour, putting the visitors 3-2 up.

Although Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha responded to restore United’s lead, substitute Junior Kroupi struck late on to earn Bournemouth a share of the spoils in a pulsating 4-4 draw.

For Amorim, however, the real damage occured long before the late drama, as he pointed to wasteful first-half finishing, rather than second-half defensive lapses, as the key reason United let two points slip.

“It’s really disappointing. It was a crazy game,” Amorim told BBC Sport. “It might look like we lost the two points in the second half, but I think we lost them in the first half.

“We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go into half-time with a different result.”

Despite his frustration at letting two points slip, Amorim noted that Manchester United’s home crowd would rather see the team play bold, attacking football than take a more cautious approach.

“In the end we deserved more,” the Portuguese tactician It was a fun game for everyone at home.

“People, especially at Old Trafford, want us to win, but they want to be inspired to see a team playing good football. We did that well in certain moments.

“It was a good performance, but we need to be more clinical because we created so many chances.

“Senne Lammens did really well, and there were opportunities for both sides. We created more.

“We need to find ways of closing games out because this happened too many times.

“That’s part of the process. We try to do things the best way we can, but in some moments it’s not enough.”
