Nottingham Forest give injury update on Chris Wood ahead of Porto clash

Nottingham Forest head coach Vitor Pereira has revealed that Chris Wood is back in contention with the squad ahead of their Europa League clash against Porto on Thursday.

Wood, 34 has been out of action since suffering an injury in October, before undergoing surgery on his knee last December.

The New Zealand forward scored 20 times for Nottingham Forest last season, but managed only three until his injury earlier in the campaign.

He is now set to return to action after a six-month injury layoff and could get a glimpse of action against Porto after travelling with the team to Portugal.

“He has started to train with the team and is available for the game”, Pereira stated.

“He is working with us, we need to manage him a little bit physically but he has travelled. It means he is available to be in the game tomorrow.”

Nottingham Forest visit Porto for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday, hoping to secure a favourable result ahead of next week’s second leg encounter.

The Tricky Trees have endured a disappointing campaign in the Premier League, but have been impressive in Europe.

They eliminated Danish side Midtjylland in the Round of 16 and now face Porto, who they already defeated 2-0 during the league-phase campaign.

Wood last played under Ange Postecoglou, although he returned to action for the U21 side last month, scoring in a 3-0 win over Newcastle United.

“He is an experienced player, he scores goals and it’s important to be ready for the team in this moment because we face a lot of challenges”, the Nottingham Forest coach continued.

Nottingham Forest face Porto on Thursday, before facing Aston Villa in the league on Sunday in two important games that could shape their season.
