Salah sits out as Egypt fine-tune AFCON plans with Nigeria win

Mohamed Salah was absent as Egypt wrapped up preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations with a friendly victory over Nigeria.

The Pharaohs claimed a 2–1 win on Tuesday night. However, their talisman played no part in the contest.

Salah arrived in Cairo in the early hours of matchday. The tight turnaround ruled him out of selection.

Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush was also unavailable and watched from the sidelines.

Despite the absences, Egypt showed sharpness. The win offered momentum heading into the tournament.

It also allowed the technical crew to assess squad depth under match conditions.

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka started for Nigeria and brought energy to the midfield battle.

Fulham’s Alex Iwobi remained an unused substitute.

Egypt open their campaign on Monday against Zimbabwe. Group clashes with South Africa and Angola follow before the New Year.

With Salah expected to return for competitive action, Egypt will look to blend experience with rhythm.

All eyes now turn to their opening test as the Pharaohs chase continental glory once again.
