Football mourns as Forest and Scotland Legend John Robertson passes away at 72

Football has lost one of its quiet geniuses. John Robertson has died at 72. The news hit the game like a deep, sudden silence.

The former Nottingham Forest and Scotland winger inspired a generation. He thrilled fans. He shaped history. Then he etched his name into European football forever.

He began his journey at the City Ground. He ended it there too. In between, he crossed the divide to Derby. Yet he remained Forest through and through.

He earned 28 caps for Scotland. He featured at the 1978 World Cup. Then again in 1982. He wore the shirt with pride. And he never backed down.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Nottingham Forest legend and dear friend, John Robertson,” the Bees paid tribute with emotion and class.

“A true great of our club and a double European Cup winner, John’s unrivalled talent, humility and unwavering devotion to Nottingham Forest will never ever be forgotten.

“Our thoughts are with John’s family, friends and all who loved him.

“Rest in Peace, Robbo… Our greatest.”

He lifted two League Cups with Forest. He later moved across to Derby in 1983. After two years, he returned to the City Ground. He featured 12 more times. Then the final whistle sounded on his playing career.

After hanging up his boots, he stayed in the game. He worked with Martin O’Neill at Celtic and Aston Villa. He coached. He taught. He passed the game on.

And now, the football world pauses. Another legend leaves. But the memories play on like highlight reels.

John Robertson did not shout for attention. He let the ball speak. And football will never forget.
