Slot hails Liverpool’s performance despite draw at lackluster Arsenal

Arne Slot believes Liverpool will continue to improve after they claimed a valuable away point against Arsenal in Thursday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The league champions had won the reverse fixture 1-0 courtesy of a Dominic Szoboszlai free kick, but had suffered a dip in form since then.

Without several of their starters on Thursday night, they dug deep and produced an impressive second half performance to hold the Gunners to a goalless draw.

“We showed the quality to come here and win. In the first half, they were the team that played the most in our half”, Slot remarked after the match.

“It led to some moments in crosses but not too many chances. In the second half, it was exactly the opposite, where we dominated the ball for almost the whole 45 minutes in their half.”

Arsenal dominated the first half with Bukayo Saka causing the Liverpool backline problems, but it was the Reds who came closest to breaking the deadlock when Conor Bradley’s effort struck the crossbar.

It was an entirely different second half as the visitors enjoyed a better spell of possession, wasting several chances to go ahead.

The Gunners were also wasteful in front of goal, as the game ended in a 0-0 result, with both sides picking a share of the spoils.

“The only thing we missed from us, not for the first time, is the moments around the box”, the Liverpool boss added.

“You’re hoping to create even more chances, but against an Arsenal team that has great momentum, to put a performance like this is something I’m very positive about.”

Arsenal remain top of the standings but missed the chance to increase their six point lead over second-placed Manchester City, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton a day earlier.

Liverpool, meanwhile remained fourth and are eight points behind third-placed Aston Villa.
