Trevoh Chalobah has been called up to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup tournament as a replacement for Tino Livramento, who was forced to pull out with injury.
Chalobah had been omitted from the initial 26-man squad for the tournament, but will now join the rest of the squad for the remainder of their campaign.
Livramento meanwhile, will now miss out after failing to recover in time from a calf injury.
“Tino was of course very disappointed and sad,” England boss Thomas Tuchel said.
“All of us were. It was a bit of a shock when he had to stop training and he had a feeling that this could be an injury that could cost him the tournament. He was unfortunately right after assessment.
“We got the information that it’s about four or five weeks, which is unfortunately too long to keep on rebuilding and reintegrating him into the squad. We took the decision to send him home, which is disappointing.”
England opened their account with a 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening match.
Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half after Noni Madueke was brought down by Luka Modric in the area.
Croatia equalized through Martin Baturina, but the Three Lions were back in front once again as Kane headed home his second of the day.
Petar Musa leveled the scores on the stroke of halftime, sending both sides level into the break.
However, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford scored in the second half to seal a 4-2 win for England.
“We called Trevoh Chalobah, because we can free up Jarell Quansah as a full-back on both sides. Djed Spence can play as a full-back on both sides. Trevoh comes as a centre-back alternative, which gives us full coverage in the back four.”
England will return to action with a clash against Ghana in their second match, before facing Panama in their final group game.
