Dorde Petrovic saluted AFC Bournemouth’s resilience and collective mentality after delivering an outstanding goalkeeping display in a hard-fought 1-1 Premier League draw against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
From the opening exchanges, Bournemouth showed tactical discipline and defensive grit, with Petrovic at the heart of their resistance.
As the game wore on and Brighton turned up the pressure in the second half, the Serbian goalkeeper produced a string of crucial saves to keep the Cherries in front following Marcus Tavernier’s first-half penalty.
However, just as the visitors looked set to claim all three points, a spectacular late equaliser swung the momentum back Brighton’s way.
Despite the late setback, the shot-stopper was keen to focus on the bigger picture, stressing that Bournemouth matched one of the league’s strongest home sides stride for stride.
He admitted the timing of the goal was painful but felt the overall performance spoke volumes about the team’s character.
“It’s very tough to take,” he admitted. “We played very well, but unfortunately we conceded one amazing goal late on.
“Overall, it was a good mentality, good character and a good game from us.
“I think everyone, not just me, had the same feeling.
“In the second half they pressed us, but defensively we were amazing all game. Just one moment, one amazing goal unfortunately for us was enough.”
He added: “I had some good saves, but defensively as a whole everyone played really well.
“The press from Evanilson and Kroupi at the start, myself, the midfielders and defenders – everyone had a good game.
“I think everyone gave absolutely everything.
“There were a lot of players cramping. While it wasn’t enough to win, it showed the mentality of this group.”
Looking ahead, the Bournemouth goalkeeper believes performances like this underline steady progress under Andoni Iraola.
Even with recent defensive challenges, Petrović feels the Cherries are building momentum through consistency, belief, and hard work.
“We’ve obviously conceded a few recently, but we have to be in the present and continue to strive to be better,” he continued.
“We had a tough FA Cup game with Newcastle where we played really and showed huge desire and resilience at times, playing very well.
“Before that we had the win over Tottenham, and I feel we’re starting to improve every game.
“We’re giving our all to improve and keep this little run going.”
In the end, while the late equaliser denied Bournemouth a memorable away win, the Serbia international’s performance and the team’s collective resolve ensured the Cherries left the south coast with renewed confidence and belief as the season battle continues.
