Vinicius Junior signals intent to stay at Real Madrid beyond current contract

Vinicius Junior has reaffirmed his commitment to Real Madrid, easing doubts over his future beyond the expiry of his current contract.

The Brazil winger’s current contract expires in 2027 and has been linked with a move away from the club despite negotiations having stalled.

The 25-year-old has been subject of criticism in recent outings and was blamed for the departure of Xabi Alonso, following their touchline spat earlier in the season.

“I have nothing to do with it. … I can’t do anything about it. The only thing I can do on the field is go in and give my all. I won’t always be at my best technically, but I’ve always given my all for the team and done everything to make everyone feel comfortable”, Vinicius denied any involvement in the Spaniard’s departure.

“The fans demand a lot from the players, and I have to be at my best all the time”, he continued.

“My last year has been difficult; I haven’t been able to play the way I want, but it’s always important to keep going. … I’m human too. I get upset by what people say, but every two or three days, we have the opportunity to prove ourselves.”

Vinicius was a star performer on Tuesday night as Alvaro Arbeloa guided the club to a 6-1 victory over AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.

The Brazil superstar scored one and set up three of his side six goals as they climbed up to second on the standings ahead of Wednesday’s fixtures.

“I want to stay here for a long time. There’s also a lot of talk about my contract renewal because I have another year left. We’re very relaxed about it.

I trust [Real Madrid president Florentino Perez], and he trusts me. We have a very good relationship, and we’ll sort things out at the right time. We’re in no hurry to do that”, the 25-year-old added.

A contract extension would see Vinicius get an improved wage, making him among the club’s highest earners and end speculations of a move to the Saudi Premier Football League.
