Oliver Glasner committed to Crystal Palace until end of contract

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says he is fully committed to the club until the end of the season after talks with the club’s chairman Steve Parish.

The Austrian had confirmed last week that he would leave the club upon expiration of his contract at the end of the season and slammed the club’s owners after their 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

The Eagles had sanctioned the sale of captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City, leaving Glasner very furious with the decision.

However, in his prematch press conference ahead of the visit of Chelsea on Sunday, the 51-year-old has stated that he remains committed to achieving success at the club until his final departure.

“I was thinking a lot about what happened before and after the game, and I was quite emotional after the game, and I think it shows how much the players, how much Crystal Palace means to me. Some could say, ‘Why do you care? You already told the club that you will leave in summer’, but it’s just how I am, how attached I am to the club”, Glasner revealed.

“And in this situation, with all the circumstances, and it’s not that we sold [Marc Guehi]. I agreed one year ago in February, we had a meeting, I agreed to sell Marc.

“I had a very long dinner with Steve [Parish] this week, and we talked about this situation – not to sell Marc – it’s the timing and the possible replacement, and this was the situation I wanted to explain, and it was a very good talk for both of us.”

Glasner has enjoyed a very successful time at Palace and guided the club to their first-ever major trophy last May, when they defeated Manchester City to win the FA Cup.

The Eagles also defeated league champions Liverpool to win the FA Community Shield earlier in the season.

“But nothing changed, what I told at the press conference before the Sunderland game, when I said I will give my best to play a great season, and Steve and me we are 100 per cent committed still, that we will do our best to have a great rest of the season, a great four months together. This is what we all want, and I know the club is now very hard-working to do the right things”, Glasner added.

Crystal Palace welcome Chelsea to Selhurst Park, hoping to end their poor run of form.

The Eagles are 13th on the standings with 28 points and a win over their London rivals could move them back into the top half.
