Leeds United completed a stunning turnaround to hold Chelsea to a dramatic 2-2 draw in the Tuesday night’s English Premier League clash at Stanford Bridge.
Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer put the Blues ahead and were on the way to another convincing win, but Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor completed the comeback for the away side.
Liam Rosenior side had the chance to pull closer to the top three with a win and started the game on top, as Pedro opened the scoring in the 24th minute.
Palmer slipped in the Brazilian, who applied the finishing touch with a brilliant chip over Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow as Chelsea took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Blues were awarded a penalty kick in the second half after Jaka Bijol needlessly shoved Pedro, allowing Palmer to score from 12 yards and make it 2-0
It was the England international’s third penalty goal in two games and fourth goal overall, following his hat-trick in the win over Wolves last weekend.
Then, Caicedo fouled Jayden Bogle inside the area, allowing Nmecha the opportunity to fire home emphatically and reduce the deficit heading into the final 20 minutes of the encounter.
Leeds United struck again in the 73rd minute as second half substitute Okafor bundled home after a fortunate ricochet into his path.
Pedro then struck the crossbar with a late header, before Palmer missed from two yards with the goal gaping, firing over the bar.
It was a contender for miss of the season, but the visitors will be very relieved as they took a point away from the encounter.
It also means Chelsea failed to defeat Leeds United in the league this season, after they were defeated 3-1 in the reverse fixture.
Attention now shifts to the weekend’s FA Cup fourth round clash against Hull City as they hope for a win to progress to the next round.
