Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has made it clear he is determined to repay the faith shown in him by head coach Liam Rosenior, insisting the new boss is pushing him to reach an even higher level.
Since Rosenior’s arrival in January, Caicedo has been a constant presence in the engine room, starting every Premier League fixture under the new regime as Chelsea remain unbeaten in the league.
Although the Blues were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Leeds United last time out, the Ecuador international believes progress is clear and momentum is building.
“Every game we want to win, so we were very disappointed to get just one point,” Caicedo explains. “But I think we are doing very well. We are learning from our mistakes.
“Liam is doing well, too. We are happy to have him here and every day we are working hard. Every day we are doing what he wants and we are doing it on the pitch in games.”
He added: “The first day he came in, I had a meeting with him. We talked about myself because he watched a lot of our games, especially me.
“So for sure he wants to help me to become an even better player, that’s why he came here as well. It’s so good to hear that because it helps you a lot to keep doing well and keep improving.
“He wants the best for you, so I’m trying really hard every day, in every game, to show why he said I’m one of the best players.”
Next up, Chelsea return to action at Stamford Bridge with Burnley visiting. Following a rare break in the schedule, Caicedo feels refreshed and fully focused on the challenge ahead.
“It was so nice to have some days off. It’s important mentally and for the body as well, so it was good,’ continued Caicedo.
“I spent time with my family because sometimes you need that. I had a very good time and now I’ve come back good and ready to go again.”
The midfielder continued: “We know we need to have a winning mentality. In every game, we need to show everything against every opponent, because every opponent is very tough.
“For sure, we want to show our best football. We want to approach it like it’s a final, because every game is a final for us. It will be a tough game, but we are preparing very well for it.”
With belief growing and standards being raised under Rosenior, Caicedo is clearly relishing the responsibility of leading Chelsea’s midfield charge.
