Carrick hails Sesko’s goalscoring impact in Man United’s win over Palace

Michael Carrick has praised Benjamin Sesko’s performance following his goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Slovenian forward started for the first time since the arrival of Carrick at the club in January and scored the winner with a superb header in the second half.

It marked the third straight league game in which he has scored, while only Brentford’s Igor Thiago (7) has scored more goals than his tally of six in 2026.

Speaking after the win, Carrick praised Sesko’s performance in the game, with United moving up to third on the EPL standings.

“Absolutely delighted for Ben. It’s certainly not been a headache, it’s not been a big drama”, Carrick stated.

“He’s had a huge impact and he’s making big improvements. A little bit is getting used to what it is like to be here and the feelings and what it means to play.

Things that we can take for granted at times. He’s desperate to do well, he works so hard, he’s an absolute pleasure to work with.”

Manchester United continued their impressive form under Carrick with another win that moved them up to third on the standings and in pole position to qualify for the Champions League.

Maxence Lacroix gave Crystal Palace an early lead in the game, but went from hero to zero when he was sent off for a foul on Matheus Cunha in the second half, also giving away a penalty in the process.

Bruno Fernandes dispatched the spotkick and then delivered a sumptuous cross for Sesko to score the winner later in the half.

“Today, he started and it was it was an absolutely fantastic goal, he’s bringing an awful lot. We’ve got good flexibility across the top line”, Carrick added.

“The front players can play different roles within the game, so there’s a lot of flexibility there. Amad took some time out today but that may change again for Wednesday, but it’s good to have those options.”
