Rodrigo Gomes hails unforgettable Molineux night after Wolves stun Liverpool

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Rodrigo Gomes described Tuesday’s dramatic victory over Liverpool FC as an “unbelievable night” as Wolves secured a thrilling late win under the Molineux lights.

Just days after making a major impact off the bench against Aston Villa, Gomes once again proved decisive.

Introduced to inject pace and directness, the winger fired Wolves ahead with a sublime outside-of-the-foot finish, setting the stage for a frenetic finale.

Although Liverpool responded to level the contest, Wolves refused to back down.

Deep into added time, Andre struck the decisive blow, sending Molineux into raptures and sealing back-to-back wins for the Old Gold.

Reflecting on the electric atmosphere, Gomes struggled to contain his excitement.

“It was an unbelievable night, again,” Gomes said. “Two wins in a row, under the lights with our fans is just unbelievable – amazing, amazing. It was equally as special.

“I think we did a good game, in a difficult game, because Liverpool is a good team.”

The Portuguese forward highlighted the squad’s growing confidence and cohesion as momentum continues to build.

“We showed our belief, we showed that we are in a good phase, with good momentum, and we need to keep doing this.

“The lads are playing very good, and I’m very, very happy to be able to help the team with this game and we need to enjoy it.”

Tactically, Wolves executed their plan to perfection, remaining compact defensively before striking with precision in transition.

“We defended very well. We were very compact and didn’t allow a lot of chances to Liverpool.

“Then we got our chances and we scored – I scored, Andre scored, and I’m very happy for him – his first goal, it’s unbelievable.

“We did an amazing game and achieved the win, which is the most important thing, and we need to enjoy it.”

Gomes’ opener came after a rapid counter-attack, and the winger explained the instinct behind his decisive run.

“It excited me a lot. When I saw Tolu holding the ball, and I saw the space, I knew I needed to go.

“It was very good, being able to score in front of our fans. It was amazing, like living a dream.”

He added: “I saw the space and just ran. I felt Konate almost take the ball, but I think it was a good finish, a difficult finish, but it was good.”

Even after Liverpool found an equaliser, Wolves maintained their composure: a mindset that ultimately paid dividends with the late winner.

“Even when they scored, we kept compact and we showed our belief and scored the goal.“It was an amazing moment with the fans. It was just unbelievable.

“When the ball went in the goal, the feeling in the whole stadium was amazing.

“When you win in the last minute, it feels very, very good. It’s football, and we need to keep this momentum.”

Attention now quickly turns to the next challenge, with Wolves preparing to face Liverpool again at Molineux.

“Liverpool again, here with our fans. We need to do the same, and if we play this, if we show this belief and quality, we have a good chance to win the game.”

With confidence surging and belief spreading through the squad, Wolves will aim to channel the same intensity and resilience as they look to build on a memorable night in front of their supporters.
